"Patton Strikes Back"
German 23 PM |
Allied 23 PM
|
The
Germans have seven attacks of which 4 are against surrounded units. All
attacks will be at relatively high odds. One air unit is held back. An
Angriff is launched which will give me either a 1/6 or a 1/2 chance of
surrounding another two US units. My main goal for the turn is to get a
unit adjacent to the hex behind Dinant so as to prevent a US unit from
building an IP there. This, in turn, will allow me to get combined arms
attacks against that hex in subsequent turns...
I did not 'hit' the 1/6 Angriff chance of
surrounding two US infantry regiments but I did manage an advance to
Dinant that put me adjacent to the bridge hex on the western side of the
Meuse. Marche was cleared and four more US dead, including the 11/29
British Armored unit, bringing the total so far to 33. Wermacht plans for
24AM will be totally driven by US air placement so there's not too much
thinking for OKW at this point.
As a measure of the minimal amount of risk
this turn, I had relatively bad luck but still accomplished all my
objectives but one.

Other
than the Angriff failing to advance the needed number of hexes to surround
two defending Yank units (1/6 chance), I believe these results were
favorable to the German Player. Four eliminated units, two step losses,
and two D4s is a nice bag. The seed for a Meuse River crossing was planted
at the Dinant bridge by preventing the construction of an IP.
Seven air units will be put to good use. My
goal is to minimize the German capability of reaching Meuse River hexsides
while maintaining at least two air units in reserve to counter German
ground support. By spreading Patton's 4th Armor Division in and around
Dinant, I can maximize my coordinated defense DRM. U.S. 2nd Armor Division
will serve the duel purpose of blocking any German drive on Namur while
maintaining a position that will allow a swing to either the South or
North, depending on the German threat. I'll build a number of IPs this
turn at potential Meuse River bridge crossings. My one air unit held in
reserve will assist me in a counterattack at Dinant and a possible advance
across the big river.
